The Basics and Beyond!!! Take your playing to the next level.
The Internet's largest collection of information for ukulele and jazz guitar.
Chord Melody or Melody and Chord is the art of playing the melody and chords at the same time. This is what solo piano players do all the time. They have two hands to do it. On ukulele we have to do it all with one hand and only four strings. In the common high "G", C tuning, the available range of notes for creating melody and chord arrangements on ukulele is around two octaves, give or take a few notes. A little more on the lower end for a low "G", C tuning.
All arrangements are in "C" tuning. Most with a low "G" and information on how to play with a high "G" if possible.

Guidelines for creating melody and chord arrangements on ukulele.
There are quite a few site online with arrangements and transcriptions.
Creating Melody and Chord Arrangements, in theory are as simple as harmonizing the melody with a chord. Which is playing a chord that has the melody note as the top note of the chord voicing. In practice it is a little more involved, but not much more.
Here is a page of tips and guidelines for creating your own arrangements.
A few things you should know before starting:
A free form Chord is a chord that does not fall into the open position, movable form or 4-part chord catagories.
Here are a few links to site that have some already created or transcribed arrangements. The goal of this JazzUkulele.net site is to teach and collect resources for learning to create you own arrangements.
TAB, short for tablature - Wikipedia states:
"An alternate usage of the word "tab" is common on the internet, where it can also refer to conventional chord symbols (for harmony), or note names (for melody)."
(Curt Sheller) This a departure from what has been traditionally known as TAB. There a lot of sites on the internet, especially ukulele sites popping up that claim to be TAB sites. These are mostly sites with the chords and lyrics to songs, with or without chord diagrams. Not really "TAB", but I guess we're stuck with an expansion of the definition of TAB.
A GREAT collection of ukulele TABS from "Dominator" aka Dominic Pieranunzio are available on his site.
(from Dominator's site ) A little about me: Primarily a self taught guitarist, pursuing the ukulele for approximately six years, I have spent the last couple of years concentrating on the ukulele. Not being able to find tablature for the ukulele in the same quality and format as was (and still is) available for the guitar is the motivation behind this site. Since books containing ukulele tab were not available, I decided I would try to transcribe the songs myself and make them available for others to learn from as well.
Dominic "Dominator" Pieranunzio has some of the best ukulele TABs available online. And, a great player as well.
The Dominator uses Power Tab Editor. The only issue I have is the standard music notation part. For musicians used to reading standard music notation the rhythmic notation is very hard to read at times. In common, 4/4 time there are a lot of cases where a note is sustained over the mid bar with out using a tie. This is not standard and is rarely used, with the exception of latin music. Making it very hard to read for a player used to reading professionally prepared charts.

The ukulele is both a different instrument than the guitar and at the same time a lot like the guitar.
