This technique for changing strings applies to ukuleles as well.

(Ed.) I use this technique and it works really well and saves a lot of time when restring a guitar or ukulele.

Using Classical Guitar String Set on Ukulele

A ukulele is constructed basically like a small classical guitar. As such, s lot of the same concerns and information, technique and resources can be used for ukulele.

How to Select the Best Classical Guitar Strings for Your Nylon String Guitars from Classical Guitar Express

(source: FleaMarketMusic.com) Any classical guitar strings will work. You'd only use the D G B and E strings. As far as I know there aren't any unwound classical D strings.

Use the classical guitar D string for the uke G when using a low G tuning.
Use the classical G string for the uke C.
Use the classical B string for the uke E.
Use the classical E string for the uke A.

(Ed.) Any gauge string would work depending on how much tension you like on your strings. A favorite brand is Savarez. I've use Savarez Alliance strings (red package) on my tenor ukes. Another favorite brand among players are D'Adarrio strings.

Benefiting from the most recent discoveries, the classical guitar strings (three trebles strings made at first of plain gut and basses strings made of copper wound on silk (later on silver plated copper wound on silk)) have evolved into the use of monofilament nylon called plain nylon for the three trebles strings and of silver plated copper wound for the three basses strings.

You can choose between sets paired with either Alliance trebles or New Cristal trebles. The Alliance trebles are made from a carbon fiber type material (fluorocarbon). They have a slightly thinner diameter than most other nylon trebles, are very smooth to the touch and are very bright and punchy. The New Cristal trebles are made from a blended polymer nylon and yield a warmer, richer tone than the Alliance trebles.

D'Addario Debuts J71 Pro Arté Tenor Ukulele String Set

Getting the most tone out of the humble ukulele is now a reality with the new D'Addario J71 Pro Arté Tenor Ukulele Set.

This new D'Addario Ukulele Set consists of an all-nylon string set made from an assortment of Pro_Arté classical guitar string gauges, specifically from the EJ44 and EJ46. All Pro_Arté strings are sorted by a sophisticated, computer-controlled, laser machine, which performs diameter/tension measurements and quality checks, ensuring that each set is well-matched, true-sounding and precisely intonated.

D'Addario's efforts were inspired and guided by the virtuosity of D'Addario ukulele artist, Jake Shimabukuro, the Hawaiian born musician who has taken the instrument to dizzying heights, employing a range of techniques including tapping, striking, strumming and plucking.
